Let the children come!

A Camp for everyone!

We believe every child should be able to attend camp. Our policy is to never turn a child away for lack of funds.  When we aren't busy with summer camp, we host a variety of retreats, field trips and events. We invite you to learn more about our mission, programs and facilities. We welcome you to be a part of what God is doing at South Mountain!

At South Mountain Christian Camp

We INVITE individuals to experience the transformative power of Christ through camp, we INVEST in their spiritual growth, and we INSPIRE them to go live out their faith with purpose."

Located in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, South Mountain Christian Camp provides the perfect environment where anyone can experience the beauty of God’s creation.  While we operate year-round, providing meeting spaces,  lodging and outdoor adventures, our passion and vision is centered around our summer camp. Established on the principles in Luke 18:16, where Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God,” South Mountain Christian Camp never turns a child away from summer camp for financial reasons. Because of this 80% of our campers come on scholarships!

During our jam-packed summers, South Mountain Christian Camp features a range of activities including: climbing, swimming, games and chapel services all designed to create lasting memories and a deeper connection with Christ. With over 50 years of leaning on God’s vision to "let the children come..."  we still operate under our founding principles and are blessed with a wealth of knowledge and experience in camping ministry.

How do we do it? Most of our funding comes from passionate individuals who see the value in our mission. We also partner with several organizations that help us raise funds and connect with children that need a life changing week of camp. For most of these children, it is the first time they’ve experienced God’s love. Many of them have experienced difficult lives and we work year round to recruit, train and equip individuals who want to help them.

O.A. & Charlotte Fish

Captain O.A. Fish and his wife Charlotte are the founders of South Mountain Christian Camp. Capt. Fish was an Eastern Airlines pilot. In the Late 1960's they purchased an 80-acre tract of land in Western NC with dreams of retiring there someday. Shortly after making the purchase, God began to impress upon their hearts that they should use that land to build a youth camp. Inspired by Luke 18:16, South Mountain Christian Camp was established in 1974. From a few tents on a hillside to an expansive year round retreat center, South Mountain continues to focus primarly on a six-week summer camp program dedicated to children and youth.

Captain Fish passed away in May of 2022, but his legacy lives on through Charlotte, their family and this ministry.
